THANKS TO TASCHEN

Their dimensions are huge, the pages are glossy, the pictures are to die for and well, the weight alone would probably do just that to you if you tried to carry it around in your handbag. We are proud to present the culturally interested (or passionate about fashion and travelling) book collectors with a section of the cool German publishing house TASCHEN’s Coffee Table Books.

The story of the German publishing house goes back 20 years. In 1980, at the young age of 18, Benedikt Taschen got the idea of publishing a series of cartoons. The success was enormous and Benedikt Taschen decided to take the production up a notch and only two years later the TASCHEN empire presented a full catalogue of big, beautiful and yet affordable books. The rational behind the venture was to make art, fashion, architecture, music, and sex available to the masses. TASCHEN has literally done that by publishing affordable books on fine art using beautiful photos and accessible texts.

Part of the success can be found in the fact that Benedikt Taschen decided to invite new, innovative artists and writers to join the team – e.g., Terry Jones from iD Magazine, who is responsible for the Fashion Now books, sought-after photographer Mario Testino, who has worked on a vast number of projects, and Philipe Starck who has decorated all TASCHEN stores world wide. In short, Benedikt Taschen has a nose for business – and a highly evolved sense of aesthetics. Qualities we can all learn from.

Thus, the TASCHEN portfolio ranges from enormous coffee table books, made to satisfy wealthy collectors, to affordable yet stylish books on architecture, fashion, music, art and sex for the masses. The content of the glossy pages is quite often provocative – and so are the prices. In fact, TASCHEN has managed to wipe out a few competitors simply on that account. Large, heavy, beautiful books, smart diaries, iconic biographies and delicious travel guides can be yours from EUR 10 to 80.
