Joie de vivre!
French designer Sophie Albou’s label Paul & Joe has been one of the industry’s most successful labels since launched in 1995 – and we absolutely understand why that is. Sophie Albou caught the eye of the fashion world very eary in her career, but then again she was practically born into the industry. She is the daughter of a French shirt-maker family and from an early age she helped out by picking the right quality and colors for the shirts. She continued this path by studying at the prestigious school Institut Français de la Mode. At 17 she was offered a position at prestigious fashion house Azzedine Alaïa. In 1995 she was finally ready to make it on her own and thus founded the label Paul & Joe (named after her two sons). What started out as a classic gentleman’s collection with a hint of retro has since then evolved into a fashion house of great dimensions. Paul & Joe became an instant success due to the lovely floral prints, great materials, delicate cuts, fits and color palette. The only downside to the label is the sky high prices which seemed unreachable to the less than wealthy consumer. The following year her diffusion line Paul & Joe Sister was launched – a more funky and affordable ready-to-wear label, yet true to the main line – and was an instant hit. Once again Sophie Albou showcased her superior talent in spotting the needs of new consumer groups and Paul & Joe Sister became the talk of the town. The style – refined, timeless and girly, downplayed, casual and humorous – is a winner season after season and the price of this luxury is equally beautiful. Hence, you can purchase a beautiful silk dress at EUR 70 or a fabulous tunic at EUR 60. |
