They can be found in all the garments you buy: the small tags with care symbols. Here you can learn which materials the garment is made from as well as instructions on how to treat the item when washing, etc. Is your new dress marked dry clean and does this mean dry clean only, can you wash a loosely knitted blouse at 40 degrees and can your new silk pants be ironed or not? We have collected a few easy and straight forward tips on how to best take care of your newly purchased clothing garments – and make them last longer.

Follow the washing instructions:
As a general rule you should always follow the care instructions in the garment. If you disregard these instructions you lose your warranty rights – and even worse: your beloved item may end up being discolored, too small or looking like a shapeless rag.

Before putting your clothes in the washing machine:
  • Read and sort you clothes according to the instructions on the care tags.
  • Separate black/dark, red/purple/pink, light colors and white textiles.
  • Separate light from heavy textiles.
  • Empty all pockets.
  • In case of stains use a stain remover prior to washing.
  • Unfold the collar on your shits – this way they will become clean as well.
  • Turn your pants inside out – this way the color will not fade when washed.
  • Close all zippers, hooks and buttons before washing.
  • Do not overstuff your machine – it will lead to permanent creases in the garments.
  • Avoid washing colored items with detergents that contain bleach.

After washing:
  • Avoid tumble drying your clothes – this way they will stay nice for much longer.
  • Hang your sweaters and t-shirs by the armpit seam with clothes pins.
  • Hang your dresses to dry on a hanger – this way they will keep their shape.

In case you get stains on your clothes:
  • Red wine: immediately soak the stain with sparkly water.
  • Champagne: put potash on the stain, leave for two days and then wash.
  • Coffee/tea: rinse with cold water. Wash the garment as usual.
  • Ink, marker and lipstick: Leave item to soak in full fat milk overnight.
  • Candle wax: leave the garment in the freezer overnight.
  • Fat and oil: remove with isopropyl alcohol.

AND REMEMBER! When it comes to removing stains you have to lightly dab the stain to avoid damaging the fabric.
