Bohemian Gipsy

Poetic, bohemian, girly, some might even say kitsch. And yes, that is actually a pretty good description of the cool French label Manoush which combines the best of the Scandinavian style with oriental elements and spice it all up with Las Vegas glam.

“I love everything that shines sings, sparkles and dances”. The creator of Manoush, Frédérique Trou-Roy, has a gypsy hidden in her heart. Ever since her early childhood she has been fascinated by Esmeralda in The Hunchback of Notredame and wore ankle length petticoats, tied candy floss pink scarves around her hair and covered her arms in multicolored bracelets.

Years later, she decided to spend time in Marrakech, Morocco. The inspiration that was later to become Manoush was present at every street corner. Colors, smells, fabrics, dancing and a no nonsense approach to fashion and mixing colors and patterns. Frédérique Trou-Roy started playing with leather, willow baskets, The Hand of Fatima, and silk – and returned to Paris with a collection of handmade bags. The rest is history and today Manoush is the well renowned yet cheeky baby sister of the fashion world.

The essence of Manoush’s fashion statement is just that of the carefree gypsies: no limits, no boundaries. So naturally, a simple cashmere knit is updated with a sequenced lion head, a bell shaped jacket is adorned with chunky golden buttons and a beautiful coat will include materials such as wool, leather and rabbit fur. One thing is for sure: The details are what makes the label stand out – and boundaries – they don’t exist.
